A Scholarship for Your Student - FAQ and Helpful Tips
Applying for a scholarship can feel overwhelming - but you don’t have to do it alone! At the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Whether you’re just getting started or putting the final touches on your application, these helpful hints are designed to make the process clearer, more manageable, and less stressful. Take a deep breath, read through our tips, and remember - we’re rooting for you!
Step one - Do you qualify?
Must be an eighth grade student attending a public school in the DFW metroplex
Step two - What is the process?
The applications get sent to 8th grade counselors in late August, early September
Counselors can choose how they release these applications to students. Our suggestion is to have it be an eighth grade assignment where all 8th grade students get to participate in the application essay portion.
Finished applications will first be submitted to counselors for their review. Counselors will then choose the top two applications to send to us at the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation.
Once applications are submitted in the fall to the BBYF, they will then go through a scoring process.
The BBYF will then select the top 25 applications to receive a $2,500 scholarship to be received upon graduating high school.
Step three - Celebrate!
If you are named one of our recipients, you will be honored at a Scholarship Celebration in April of your eighth grade year!
A few helpful tips as you start the application process:
Be sure to list all of your accomplishments, accolades, awards, and honors from your 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years. We want to hear them all!
It is important to list all of your service hours - nothing is too small!
We want to see everything you are involved in so be sure to add all extracurricular activities - both in school and out of school.
Be sure to read over your essay to check for any errors and to make sure your thoughts are organized.
Write clearly!
Be creative with who you choose to write about!
I won a scholarship, now what?
Congratulations! We are so excited for everything ahead of you!
During your senior year, you will receive an email from the BBYF with directions on how to receive your scholarship.
We will need a senior profile (form will be sent) and a verification of your enrollment (we have a form to send to your registrar)
